The Hardcastle Cabin was moved from the Black Range Mountains to its location next to the museum in the 1990s.
Each log was numbered as the structure was dismantled, facilitating its reassembly at the current site next to the museum. One of the museum board members took a class to be able to build a door using methods which were time-appropriate.
Said to be larger than many cabins of its era (1930s or ’40s), the cabin holds numerous contents that would have been suitable for the lifestyle at the time. There are several trunks, a stove with cooking items, and tools necessary to sustain the era’s livelihood.
A nearby “outhouse” completes the scene.
